I looked in my service manual at how to remove shifter arm and it says to use a feeler gauge to release spring, but it does not say what size and I tried all different size's with know luck! does anyone know the trick on how this works?
You will probably need someone to hold the tranny down. I have had problem removing the stick with the trans in the car, out and on the ground will be a lot harder. Be sure you are sliding the feeler guage in the correct side of the handle. A little lubricant will help too.
there is a sheet metal spring that locks the lever in place -
your feeler gauge is on the correct side - just make sure it is centered/wide enough to get both corners
