Trans adaptor 1957
hi i been looking on line ,to convert my hydromatic jetaway...and found this guy up in Sacramento Tanson Ent. anyone have work from him?
Wilcap dose not make his kit for the 1957 olds anymore.

the hydro i have is working, but looking to have an overdrive option..700r or?

It' best to call him , websight is sketchy , products are not .
I think he may be doing 700R trans now .

Good man, great products and a little expensive but the quality is there.
Tanson is not to far from me and I have heard the name for years but I personally don't know the quality of his work, Tony on the other hand is a Oldsmobile guy and knows his stuff. Let us know how everything works out.... Tedd

ok, i got 10mpg.;O .dose that sound close to the mpg OLDSMOBILE came up w back in 1957.
talked to TONY, and after adding up the cost,he’s 25 percent higher...but all in one place and a very good reputation. could be a winter project.

This is one of the times I said screw the cost. Tony's kit is the best and most complete out there - the billet flywheel he supplied belongs in a museum, workmanship of the transmission case is second to none, and the real time saver is the optional mounting bolts that uses the stock transmission mounts.

IF , the driver didn't have a "heavy foot" . Do you often enjoy the power and torque of this beast ? Be prepared to pay the price for it at the pump .
Another thing , the gas of today usually contains 10 or more percent ethanol .
Ethanol has less heat content per gallon , so it lowers fuel mileage some .
Also is your engine in proper tune ? New plugs and points ? Air filter new or clean ? Good compression ?
As far as swapping in an overdrive transmission , yes you will save a few miles per gallon.
However , at what cost ? The cost of a trans conversion , that I have seen , is anywhere from $1800 to $2500 . That money buys a lot of gas .
If the car were a daily driver , then maybe you will get your money back in gas savings eventually . If the the car is only used occasionally , as most "hobby" cars are , and the present transmission is in good repair . Then the best choice may be to simply buy the gas , and leave things alone .

thnks for the info ... as far as tune up ,yes plugs,wires,points,carb kit(2g)
the small air cleaner might change. It seams to get dirty fast....15 mpg would be great!

If I read this right , you spent $2000 on a tune-up and a carb rebuild ? 
Too bad you aren't in central Florida . I would have done that job for a quarter of that . And still made money .
You're on the right track though . Now you need to practice driving with an egg between the gas pedal and your foot . (start with a boiled one )

Sounds to me like you have a "castrated " J-2 .
1957 was the one year that Oldsmobile did not offer a 2 bbl. carb .
Instead , the four barrel was standard , and the "J-2" setup of three two barrels was offered optionally .
The biggest problem with the J-2s was that many owners did not drive with their "foot in it " enough to get fresh gas in the end carbs . This led to problems like leaking needle and seats . Which flooded the engine .
Many mechanics solved this problem by simply removing the front and rear carbs . And blocking, off the holes with a small steel plate .
Oldsmobile did just that from the factory , in 1958 . That was in a "recession" year that they hastily introduced their low priced "Dynamic 88 "
