Oil filter adaptor

Any one know if you need to change out that screen on the oil filter adaptor? My motor had some serious metal floating around in it, and I want to make sure I dont contaminate new stuff with old stuff.

You should be able to unbolt the filter adapter and flush it out in a parts washer. But if you had that much metal moving around in the oil, what's that doing to the rest of your internal parts? Have you torn the engine down and are re-assembling it now? Sorry, I'm not sure what your situation is but it sounds like you need to rebuild the motor. John

That metal is already in places that the filter will not get it.
You can also cut you old filter open, and see what it has trapped in there.

John Oh yeah the motor is pulled apart and at the machine shop. the #2 bearing looked like it was under a train wheel for a mile or two, and all that metal had a good time screwing up the other bearings.
