I have a leak that seems to originate from the trans pan on my 1961 Olds 98. The drip is coming off of what looks to be a coupler. It is pictured below. I have a few questions:
1) Is the silver 'coupler' just that? What is its function?
2) I think this cable runs up to the odometer. Is that correct?
3) How tough is it to replace the trans pan gasket? Is it a simple 'drop and replace' job?
4) What gasket material would be best if that is the case? Some gasket maker, or an actual gasket (cork, rubber?)?
Thank you all. This is new territory for me and this transmission leak.
Yes should be cork /rubber pan gasket about $15 bucks
speedo cable has an o ring & small seal gasket both pretty easy just messy Youtube is your friend.
