Driveshaft only slides in 3/4 inch on TH350

Connecting the driveshaft that was in the trunk of a 72 Cutlass. Car was filthy covered in dirt. Cleaned the yoke and the exposed shaft up to the seal but the yoke only goes in up to the seal.

I am assuming there is dirt causing it to not on any further but how would I clean the tailshaft grooves without removing It? Do I need to remove the seal and spray it down with brake clean? Trying to get it together asap so I can move it. Any suggestions welcome.

Put a light coating of transmission fluid on the yoke and the seal. Then see if you can pop it past the seal. This is assuming you have the right yoke for the transmission.

What am I doing wrong here. I may have the wrong yoke as the car was a 350 car and it came with the 455 not hooked up. Driveshaft yoke has same pattern teeth but there is a large keyway between the teeth which I am not seeing on the transmission. Wrong yoke or something else?

From the look of that yoke in the video, I'm guessing there's rust or crud inside the splines.

Depending on the year of the transmission some had a yoke seal sleeve that the yoke would slide into the tail housing and then slide into the yoke seal sleeve.

2 hours later I was able to remove all the rounded bolts that hold on the housing. Will clean both the shaft and the yoke thoroughly tomorrow and give it another shot. Thanks for the replies.

You guys are right as usual. Cleaned the shaft and yoke teeth with PB Blaster and a wire brush and it slipped on smooth after. Thanks.
