Wrong shift cable bracket

Guys, I bought a new shifter cable and apparently have a 350 turbo cable bracket. I have a turbo 400. I can only line up 1 hole on the tranny pan. My question is, Can I modify the bracket mount location, by modifying how it mounts to the pan and solve the cable issue? The cable said 350/400 trannys. I am able to modify the bracket, just want to make sure if I secure the bracket so that there is no slack it would be ok. Right now, I m about 1/2" off of where it needs to be. I want to move the u slot for the cable back 1/2" and re weld it, also modify the mount, so it will fit 2 holes... Help...

I'd just buy the correct bracket for the 400 trans. They're easily available from Fusick,Inline, etc & they're only around $20. If the spacing isn't correct at the trans you could have problems(it might go into park but not 1st,etc)as there's not allot of adjustment at the trans shift lever.
