Transmission swap

Would a trans from a 1987 custom cruiser work in a 1984 olds 98? I am very new to olds and working on cars in general so if this is an obvious answer please consider these facts and dont nail me to a cross haha

Thanks in advance!

The trans in the 84 SHOULD be a 200-4R. The trans in the 87 is definitely a 200-4R. They should swap with no issues, but verify that the trans pans are the same.

"Guy" is wrong. There is no such trans. It's either a TH400 three speed or a 200-4R four speed. GM did not install TH400s in cars in the 1980s, so if it really is a TH400 it was not put there by the factory. That means we don't know which tailhousing length it has.

Again, take look at the trans pans to ID the transmission.

The 200-4R is the only overdrive trans Olds ever used behind the 307 in a RWD application.
