Tremec vs Keisler

Tremec vs Keisler
I have a 1971 442 auto with console.
Like many I am toying with the idea of converting over to the funner side.
I have been researching and wondered if there was some expertise out there to discuss the Keisler vs Tremec 5 speed and if one is truly better than the other for our cars.
Thanks

I swapped my factory 4 speed for the Keisler SS700 5 speed, which I bought to avoid cutting up my floor. It's an easy swap, and Keisler worked with me to make sure the shifter would work with my console.

Thanks for the response DC.
I was following your thread and wondered if you looked at both the Keisler and Tremec and if there was much difference ie cutting performance etc.
I am not sure that going from auto (which I am), is as simple??
How are you liking it or is that a dumb question LOL.

Before buying I looked at threads on installing the Tremec in an A body, and almost everyone said they had to modify their tunnel(s) to make it fit. There are a couple guys on here who have installed the Tremec that could help.
As far as performance, the close ratio gearing made a difference, as well as the rail shifter, which is the same on both transmissions. My goal was to retrofit my car without making major modifications, and I think that was accomplished.

Oh ok I'm not interested in a lot of cutting either, that's why I started this thread to get some input on what works best as far as fit.
If you have any pics with the console back in I would be very interested in seeing the final product.
What was your final cost to switch over to the Keisler set up. (if you don't mind saying)
Thanks,

There are a lot of threads out there detailing the disgusting customer service provided by Keisler when they were having problems with delivering Tremec's, and Nick wasn't the only guy to suggest that I do business elsewhere.
My experience with Keisler has been EXCELLENT, they have done everything I've asked, and a little more, I highly recommend them.

I'm happy it's been a night n day different experience for you, I hope they keep it up. This can be a stressful hobby, and dealing with a pain in the butt vendor sure doesn't help. I purchased the RS600 when it was available, which was 2-3 years ago. Maybe Shafi Keilser has changed or trained his staff since then. I hope so.
I will say, that once I got it installed (twice, first one had defective 5th gear), it's a nice transmission. For somebody such as yourself that doesn't have a bad taste in their mouth, Keisler is a valid option. Me personally, wouldn't buy a bucket of water from them if my pants were on fire.
Whatever you choose, a big HELL YEAH for putting a manual transmission in it!

Thanks for the responses guys.
I'm still researching and did not realize at first that Keisler resold Tremec transmissions?? I take it that they are just adding to make the changeover easier? I was on their web site but they did not recommend the SS700 for the 1971 442s unless I am missing something (which is possible LOL)
The picture that DC showed on his thread looks like a pretty good fit.
Does Keisler make any of their own transmissions ?
Thanks for your help.

Keisler is a reseller, not an OEM. The SS700 is mfg by Legend Transmission and Gear, and is a new design, at least case wise, for "no cutting" installations. Keisler is also selling various Tremec units, and has been for years.
Yah, the SS700 was as close to plug 'n play as it gets..
Roger, have you checked your block to make sure it has the threaded hole for the Z Bar stud? Do you know if your crank has the provision for the pilot bearing? Both are necessary to do a stick shift conversion..

No I have not checked my block or crank. I'm assuming it doesn't as currently it's an auto ??? I'm not that knowledgeable with this so I will have to get someone to check this for me.
Would anyone know what my current rear end ratio is. Its all stock and I'm not sure 3.73 or were their options on this ??
