trans fluid level
Ok,,,I finally got my rebuilt 455 started,,,,I still have the car up on jack stands and was shifting the transmission and the wheel started turning but then stopped...I checked the fluid level and it was barely on the dipstick...I added another quart and the wheels started to spin again but then stopped...So far i added a 5 quarts total of tranny fluid ...Now in the book it states for a complete tare down it takes 10 quarts...Now i didnt do a complete tare down just drop the pan,,changed the filter,,,Pulled the pump and changed the seal along with the rear seal, and the cooling lines,,,,Do I just keep adding untill it reaches the full mark...

Just keep going. 1/2 quart at a time. With the car level.
The level on the stick will stay at the very bottom, looking like you need about a quart and a half, then suddenly it will be overfull (unless you go 1/2 at a time).
You're filling up the converter, which must have had some poured out of it.

What'd I tell ya?
As it keeps going in, you start getting careless and adding more at a time, then it suddenly creeps up on you and it's overfull...
It's always better not to over fill an automatic transmission.
If it's just a tiny bit over, that's okay.
If it's more than that, you should use an oil gun (like you use to fill the rear end with gear oil) and a long, clean hose to pull out a bit through the dipstick tube.
Takes about 2 minutes.

Congaratulations of getting it going. How's it run?
