Hello everybody ,somebody know how to check that the transmission fluid is in level on an alero 2001 automatic? thanks !

 

With the car raised and level; there is a 7/16 bolt on the passenger side of the transmission inward of the right axle. Remove it slowly. If the fluid runs out it's full. Make sure it's not overfilled. If no fluid comes out; fill it slowly till it comes out then stop filling and insert the bolt and retighten. The transmission cap is on the top under the exhaust crossover pipe on the driver's side. It is usually red in color. This is best done with two people. One filling and one under the car. Hope this helps.

 

man what a crazy way to have to check the tranny fluid. The designers were really on the ball with that one.

 

I think he is assuming a manual trans. Under the hood you SHOULD see a little red handle roughly in front of the drivers seat back by the firewall. That should be your stick for the trans. I have an impala, but basic layout should be similar.

The Impala has the 4T65 Transmission and the Alero has the 4T45 Transmission. The 4T45 has no stick. However the location of where it should be is correct. There is a red cap just under the air cleaner box and the exhaust crossover like VetteLover said

Yes the way VetteLover put it is the correct way to check the tranny fluid on the 4T40/4T45 transmission since it has no dipstick, however I thought the bolt was 11mm.

The car also has the be running and the engine and tranny hot when doing this, the car also has to be on a level surface for this to work correctly
