does anyone have much experience with the tremec tko transmissions? Ive got one (TKO500) and nothing but problems from the start. I had a shop put the midshift kit in it. I had tried but something came loose inside when i tried to remove the tail housing, it got all jammed up and parts fell out...

Well they got it back together and the mid shift kit installed, but now i have to slam it out of reverse every time no exceptions. I wonder if this is a due to poor re-assembly, or the nature of the midshift kit, or the trans being brand new..

Of course now that everything is built i realize that i could have used the stock rear shift spot, just utilizing the forward position of the rear shifter. Do you guys think the stock rear shifter works better in general than the mid shift?

 

Well i sent it off to get looked at, they found a pin missing from the 5th gear shift fork causing it to hang up. Don't know how its related to the problem getting out of reverse but they tell me it shifts well now.. I had them move it back to the stock shifter location, so i'm hoping for a noticeable improvement.

 

I can't tell you much about the problem but I installed the mid shift in the one going into my 77 Cutlass so I can run the bench seat. The kit came with everything I needed but I don't remember disassembling the tailhousing, just removing the rear shifter and a pin. Seems to work just fine out of the car. Sounds like the shop who installed it may have not known a lot about the TKO or had enough experience in them to ensure everything was installed correctly. They can be finnicky
