I really do like your car!!! The 4 door hardtops have a real nice look to them and were one of the least produced cars. You can see lots of 2 doors and convertibles, but not many 4 doors. I think that they look real cool with the windows down. I also have a 4 door hardtop, a 63 Chevy Impala "Sport Sedan". It looks good and gets alot of attention at car shows. The National Impala Association annual meet this year is showcasing "Those Fabulous Four Doors". I plan on taking mine there so that it can be shown along with it's "Brothers".
As far as the transmision in your car, I would install the TH350. You will notice a nice increase in accelleration with the lower first gear in it. You will also like the smother shifting with the three gears and still cruise nice on the hiway.

I've seen their ad on craigslist...I actually called Southland Transmission like you recommended to me a couple months ago. That's who quoted me around $1100-1200 for everything. I think I spoke to Tony.

swapping out my 2 speed was the best move i ever made with my car, followed by disc brakes. i kept the factory 3.08 gears in the rear. the tranny swap made a world of difference!!! my car will chirp second on demand, boil POSI, and it's much quicker.
didn't improve highway driving much....sits at about 2600-2800rpm @ 65-70mph if i remember correctly. but i love it over the 2 speed. i installed a Hurst ProRatchet 2 floor shifter as well, which is the *****!!!
rebuilt BOP TH350 stage 1 street/strip & 2200 converter- $850
Hurst ProRatchet 2 floor shifter - $75 (awesome deal, new in box)
labor - $150 (which is VERY LOW from a good friend)
so there's $1075 right there with cheap labor....i would swap your tranny first before you decide to change the rear gears, you might be surprised. it's a big job to gamble with a used tranny, i would start with a fresh one. find a core, then have it rebuilt, then buy your floow shifter, then install. do a little at a time, it won't seem like such a big hit to your wallet!!! Good Luck!!!
