fitting leak

i noticed that a small fitting on the drivers side of my TH400 transmission is leaking. it has a hose coming out of it that runs toward the engine. Any idea what this fitting does and what fixing the leak involves?

Are you sure it is on the drivers side? Is there a wire, hose or metal tube connected to it?

There are two O-ring seals here, one between the housing and the trans case and one internal to the housing that seals the speedo drive gear. Both are easy to replace.
There were two threads on this question, Joe P answered it in the other. Had me scratching my head when I first read it too.
