Brand new tranny slipping /not shifting

My new tci streetrodder is acting up after about 2 weeks. It slips after driving a little bit. Then it doesn’t shift but speed still increaseses. Does low oil have anything to do with this?

Yes. The oil is the fluid coupling in the torque converter and is pressurized inside the transmission to actuate various parts, so low fluid will definitely affect operation.

Okay cuz I got an oil change recently and I only bought a 5 qt thing and I added 2 more qts today to make it 5.7 but I’m wondering if the new transmission requires more fluid then the original dipstick? Oil dipstick says it’s full but it’s barely any on stick so I’m confused? Color is good on both dipstick reads. And made sure vacuum modulator was hooked up and everything. Also another thing I got new cherry bomb glass packs because my super 40 flowmaster weren’t loud enough to me since the glass packs i think I’ve been hearing slight back fire. I have an exhaust leak so I can’t hear it indefinitely but it’s always when I get off the gas it does it. I thought it was cool but I’m thinking it’s bad ? Also when I changed the oil and filter they told me to change the Pcv valve but they found out there wasn’t one on there in the first place but it always ran fine. Or maybe it was in there and they didn’t know that it was a pcv valve from back in the day. Anyway. Looks like I won’t be taking my cutlass to college in Oklahoma. (From Dallas) .

I am confused what oil you are adding where. You are reading two different dipsticks ? How much ATF did you add to the transmission ? Was it completely dry to begin with ?

Oil in where the oil goes . Yes I’m reading two sticks sorry for the confusion. When we first put it on we put 12 qts I got a torque converter as well. And it still needed more. Plus there was like a tad tiny bit of leftover fluid from the blown transmission. But the fluid looks good. It was dry when they shipped it yes. I didn’t drive it dry

The torque converter needs to be filled before you install the torque converter. A 13" torque converter should hold ~5 qts. of ATM ATF fluid. Assuming you swapped out the OEM 350 transmission for the TCI 350 transmission, the TCI 350 transmission should hold ~4 qts. of ATM ATF fluid if you are using the stock oil pan. Therefore, a total of 9 qts. should be nearly to capacity. I don't know, but if you were able to get 12 qts. of ATM ATF fluid into the torque converter & the transmission case and still needed more - I'm at a loss as to why you still required more ATM ATF fluid. I would have thought you'd surely overfill the entire system with 12 qts. ATM ATF fluid. Puzzling.

Chief, I think you're inadvertently posting confusing terminology.

Oh Geeze. Thanks, Ken. I was answering two different threads: Yeah, the one on the vacuum modulator (ATM - Automatic Transmission Modulator) and then I guess ATM stuck in my brain when referring to ATF. Good call.

I think you should validate which transmission oil pan you have installed. There's a chance you might have a aftermarket large capacity deep oil pan - deeper than OEM. Generally, the aftermarket large capacity deep oil pans hold an additional 3 qts. ATF fluid. If that is the case, you might have an ATF fluid oil capacity of ~ 15 qts. Time to validate the transmission oil pan, perhaps?

And . . . . what does TCI say ???? I don't understand why you would even post on here before calling them first. Its their darn transmission I would hope they would help you solve the problem.
