American Powertrain - 'TKO 600 Perfect Fit Kit'

Hey guys,

I am in the process of doing a frame off on my 72 Cutlass which was an auto car. I'm trying to get away with not trimming out a bunch of my brand new floor with the 5 spd install.

Does anyone have any experience with this kit? It seems there have been some alternating opinions on the site...Any advice is helpful!

I think you will have to modify the trans tunnel to get a TKO to fit, but I'm unfamiliar with this particular kit. You should post you question on Pro-Touring.com. These guys build/modify all kinds of cars to install LS motors, dual turbo set-ups, mini-tubbed chassis for massive rear tires, etc. Although not as common as the F-bodies, there are some guys building 68-72 A-body cars; mostly GTOs but there are a few Cutlass/442 builds. Here is a link.

Have you considered the Legend LGT-700 trans? Supposed to fit without any floor cutting.

X2 Nick. Good info. I know I like my 5 speed. It was a god investment.

Hey thanks guys! Nick I have looked into that kit but I am not very familiar with the Legend Trans so I was a little nervous about going with it. The guys at American Powertrain are telling me they have built a special BOP housing for their TKO 600 which allows very 'minimal' trimming but they can't seem to tell me how much. I would hope with brand new body mounts from Fusick it would help but who knows...

I want the Tremec but we just put a brand new single pan floor in it (PITA) and I want to do anything I can to stay away from cutting it all up.

Another question for you guys and especially you Z11575ss...did you weld some type of structure to the top of the tunnel or do you just have an aftermarket boot? By the way, thanks for the multiple videos...I used to it to sell the family on putting in a 5 spd

This is an auto car with a bench seat originally.

Also along with that...this is a bench seat car with no counsol. I am wondering if the chevelle sheet metal would work or if the olds stamped boot is different.

Great info and I spoke to Legend today...sound like good guys but I would like to see some more reviews on people who have put some serious miles on them.

Any help is appreciated!

Ben

I have the RS600 and did not have to mod the tunnel, just cut a hole for the shifter & boot. (my car was an column shift automatic)

Sorry I can't help you much with any type of factory fitment.

Thanks Nick! Did you add the olds sheetmetal shifter boot to the hump?

A legend dealer quoted me MSRP today so I guess this should be interesting.
