Would anyone know where to get a front pump seal for a 1959 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88...I know it's a Hydromatic, 3 speed automatic. I don't know anything else about it. Is there different types? How do ID it? Trying to get this car ready for the Good Guys Show in KC on Sept. 1st. Thanks for any information you can provide.

The Hydramatic in your 1959 Olds should be a Jetaway dual coupling 4 speed unit, and not a 3 speed.

 

So I guess D, S, L, and R all count? Attached is a photo of the shift pattern. I followed the above link from Oldsfan, I clicked on "Oldsmobile - Jetaway - used in most 1956's - 56-60", here is the link it brought up http://www.autotran.us/jhmkits1.html, is this the right one? I wonder if I can just get the front pump seal without buying the whole kit...I guess I will have to contact them and find out I suppose...unless anyone out there knows...

On 4 speed Hydramatics, there is no shift quadrant position for first gear. The transmission always starts in first gear and then shifts to second gear, which is the "Low" shown on the shift quadrant. "Super" is third gear, and "Drive" allows fourth gear. Parts for the Jetaway model 315 shown in the ad should fit your transmission.

 

Did some more looking and I know it has 15 bolt holes, it says Hyrdomatic across the pan front (when looking up at it), it also says Drain with a across the middle between hydromatic. The pan shape is almost square. Does this help?
