1965 th400 filter change.

Hi was thinking to replace filter and oil in the 1965 98 but are a little confused about what type of filter
to use , have seen this model with brass media filter in the chassies manual and on rockauto :

But also this model of filter :

Would be nice to have the filter before i begin the change.

If the pan on your TH400 has a horseshoe-shaped indentation, it uses the upper filter. If not, is uses the lower filter. The original trans in a 1965 98 would have used the upper style.

Early pan

Late pan

Thanks again Joe for answering questions I replaced the filter in my TH400 in my sqarebody but did not
know that the early TH400 has a another style. So i have the original transmission in our 98. Should order a
filter from Rock Auto and replace it and the oil have no idea when / if this has been done earlier.

Never hurts to change fluid and filter.
