New Carb

Anyone have used other carbs than the original qjet on the 66 to 70 Toronados? My original carb just isn't too fresh anymore. I don't have an issue with qjets per se, but it is almost 50 yrs old. Any aftermarket units that are plug and play?

For a Toro? Not bloody likely
I can get a rebuilt 1967 Toro carb that has been on the shelf since oh 1975, so it's not like it has 50 yrs of USE. Quite affordable, too.

you can use every carb desinged for 455's oldsmobile engines 66-70...but be aware of hood clearance.you'll need a flat air cleaner

I have a 68 el camino with an edelbrock carb. Does not matter if it's 17 or 70 outside. Starts right up. It's beautiful.

Toronado engine has been rebuilt, and I just installed an ignitor ignition system. Just should run better than it does.

I would recommend sticking with a stock Quadrajet . I tried going down this road when the Quadrajet on my 68 needed rebuilt. I had major road blocks in absolutely every direction. The manifold is extremely flat, the engine sets extremely high, and there is absolutely no hood clearance for any kind of manifold adapters. Also, be very careful if you buy one off eBay that claims to be rebuilt. Allot of them are very poorly rebuilt and you do not always get the same item that is in the picture. After two extremely frustrating and expensive eBay mishaps, I ended up just having my original Quadrajet rebuilt...

not true, '66 & '67 toro's have unique throttle ends. and then there's calibration differences.
