1968 Toronado Master Cylinder (Drum Only)

Well I have hit another road block finding a part on my 68 Toronado. I need to find a new or rebuilt master cylinder. The part stores have lots of aftermarket stuff for Disc (Front) and Drum (Rear)... However, my Toronado has drum brakes on the Front and Rear... The GM Parks Manual calls for a Bendix Master Cylinder Part #9789856. Says it fits 1968 and 1969 Toronado w/ Drum Brakes. Nobody seems to be able to cross reference that part number...

I even tried calling USA Part Supply who usually has stuff like this for a nice chunk of change and they were like nope...

Anyone run into this??? Know where I can get one???

Finding somebody to rebuild mine might be about the only other option...

Thanks in advance...

David

I got one at Rock Auto for my 67 a few weeks ago. Seems the ones with the two reservoirs the same size are the drum brakes ones. Got a new one for $40. I am 99% sure it will fit yours, just looking at that pic. I for one cannot see that there would be much, or any difference between the drums of the 67 and the 68. They probably used the same parts.

I was able to finally find a rebuilt Bendix Master Cylinder for drum front and rear at Tulsa Brake and Clutch.

Does it look anything like the 67 ones?

Similar, but the front brake fluid reservoir is much larger than the rear. The one the local big name auto-part stores were trying to sell me had the same sized reservoirs. It might have worked, but I was afraid I might run into problems. So I just took mine over to Tulsa Brake and Clutch to see if they could just rebuild mine. However when I got there the guy was like oh yeah, we have a rebuilt one just like that. Only cost me $35.00 with my core...

Works like a champ... Plus it looks a heck of allot better...

I just saw this post and since I am just North of you in Bville, I was going to let you know I have a 68 Toro I am going to part. I was going to suggest you could come get mine if you were going to have to send it off so yours would not be apart but then I read the rest of your posts. Glad to see you found what you needed in town for such a good price. I will have to remember that if I ever have a similar problem.
