Clutch fork felt?

Clutch fork felt?
i found a felt washer and a steel retaining ring under the clutch fork at the pivot ball in my 66 442. I’ve never seen one of these and can’t find a picture in the assembly manual. How does it go back in? Thanks much.

Mike, 9 is the washer on the frame side of the cross shaft. This washer and retainer is under the clutch fork in the bell housing. It slides over the pivot ball but I’m not sure which way it goes in. Either the felt in contact with the clutch fork or the retainer next to the fork. You can’t see this particular felt and retainer in the pics.

I think the retainer goes on first and then the washer. I think it's used to lubricate the stud over time. When I get time,I'll look in the service manual or parts book to see what the order and function is.

Just put a small glob of grease on the end of pivot ball before assembling.
BTW, that metal retainer is super rare, as most of them were discarded at the first clutch job.

Lots of knowledge on this forum. I couldn’t figure out how to get it back together because when I popped the clutch fork out the retainer and felt came flying out. Now I know it goes under the spring legs. Thanks again!
