Since I was only able to get two out of four off without breaking them, I had to cut the other two off.

Does anyone make new replacements? Getting to the top side with random nuts is a PITA, captive ones like the originals would be better.

 

Everybody sells them. I got my last set on ebay. Also Amazon and most of the repro houses as well as AMK fasteners.

Thx Joe, I went searching and found that OPGI has those same eBay listed ones for less including USPS shipping!

 

You can also go to Loews, Home Depot, local bolt store, etc...

 

Ya if you're not interested in exact OEM replacements just use a new grade 8 high-strength flanged hex head screw and serrated flange locknut with captive washer. McMaster Carr may have USA made hardware?

 

The problem with that is how to get a wrench on the nut

 

It's not a problem to tighten the bolt/nut when they are new. The problem arises when you go to take it apart down the road.

 

That was my point. Yes, I've done this multiple times over the last five decades.

 

Agreed its a PITA to get at for most (not me). Replacement caged nuts certainly are the better solution.
