Ronnie

Okay I have a '66 Cutlass 442 that has the original straight manual steering column. What do I need to do to convert to a tilt-wheel column and power steering? It sure would be nice to do this while I am switching engines. My new engine will have a power steering pump when installed.

You shall need the power steering gear box, hoses, and a tilt wheel column for a '66 "A" body; the column from a '67 may work, others may have more info here. Recommend a new rag joint as well.

You'll also need the correct power steering pitman arm. The pitman shaft on the PS box is larger than on a manual box so the arms do not interchange.

The 67 column will not fit in a 66 Cutlass. 67 was first year for the collapsible steering column, it is larger diameter than the 66 column. Also the notch in the bottom of the dash is smaller and the master cylinder bracket between the dash and the firewall that the brake pedal hangs from is narrower.

Thanks Joe, I had forgotten about the pitman arm being different.
