55' Olds power/manual steering gear

This may seem silly to a lot of you out there but i am toying with the idea of dumping my power steering in favor of manual steering. I like the road feel and simplicity with manual steering, i see units pop up from time to time but before i pull the trigger, does anyone know if the non power steering shaft is a different diameter than the power steering one so I would be able to keep the interior bits or would i need to find a non power steering car to do the whole swap?

Practically everything from the steering wheel down is different , power vs.. manual in 1955.
The entire steering column would have to be removed and replaced .
The steering gear box is not separate from the column, as in later models.
You will have to tear apart a lot of stuff.

If you did want to install manual steering, there are probably a lot of guys with manual steering that would like to trade parts.

You have to be Lance Armstrong to turn a 55 in tight places, once moving not a issue, but from a stop you know why they put that huge steering wheel in there... Tedd
