Dipstick won't go in (1970)
Hi,
Stupid/frustrating question: The oil dipstick tube on my rebuit 350 is a little loose. I removed the dipstick to check the oil and it seems to be getting stuck a few inches from going in. Am I missing something? Soooo frustrating.
Thanks,
James

She told me you have to lube it sometimes for it to go in properly and it still might not go in all the way.
I have a new tube and dipstick on the way , any tips for installing it correctly.
I am being serious now.

do you have a flat dipstick or a round one? the dipstick in my 455 is round but I've noticed the replacements I've seen are flat. the flat one have to be turned correctly to make the curve in the tube where the round ones will flex in any position
it's possible the tube has broken where it enters the block and has become misaligned.
when I got my Olds it had headers. apparently when the headers were installed the tube was treated rudely, becoming loose. eventually it broke off completely. the tube would come off with the dipstick when checking the oil. because of the proximity of the dipstick hole and the positive cable connection on the solenoid great care had to be taken when replacing the dipstick or the sparks would fly.
when I swapped the headers for the original manifolds the tube was replaced.
