My 403 in 77 lemans popped a freeze plug while it was sitting over by my mechanic shop. Literally this car is literally close to going to the dark side, as it sat over at mechanic not getting worked on for 6 months. The freeze plug is up front but I don't know how good the rest of them are. I haven't even heard this thing run. Feeling depressed!!!
Is it because the block froze or just old age? And yes, others could be suspect.
I guessing the block froze as we've had freezing temps. Also i did put water in it at first cause i was going to break it in June. Okay thanks do you know the locations of the other plugs?

Here's a 350 block. Your 403 would have freeze plugs in the same locations and yes they are the same size. I've never replaced them on an engine in the car, but it would at least be tight as the exhaust manifold goes over them.
An expandable rubber frost plug could be used temporarily to test run the engine to see if it was damaged. In addition to the freeze risk, sitting without coolant will allow major corrosion. Try to keep at least 30% coolant in the system.

The motor mounts will prevent access to the two center freeze plugs. The starter will be in the way of the rear driver side plug. The exhaust manifolds will also be a problem.

I'll pop the manifold off and pop a rubber one in there for the time being. I've got a full set on order so... I'll keep you guys posted if anything I'll losen the motor and see about tipping the motor up.
So I put a temp one in there what is optimal break in weather. This is freshly rebuilt motor that's the only reason I'm asking. Any other things I should be worried about.
will do I'll go through some coolant in there tomorrow.
whelp this absolutely sucks as I was replacing the temp freeze plug it went to the block and is stuck in it. Leaving me with an inoperable engine and a big giant mess of coolant.

If the temporary plug fell into the block and you cannot get it out, don't worry about it, leave it there and install another one. Will it help anything sitting in there? No. Will it hurt anything? VERY unlikely. It will be fine.
