Question need some oldsmobile 350 info

Well folks I got my heart broke when I found out I've got a olds 350 instead of a 455. So now tell me, are these olds 350s worth building and can you get some real power out of these motors? Last thing whats the best motor build for these motors.

cheer up...

hey dude....i just exploded a 496(455 olds bored and stroked)on the dyno stand and im out a lot of money...not saying the 455 aint a good motor its just more common to build up,im building up my olds 350 and im gonna get some serious power out of it and im talking about the same motor you got...i have a 68 "s" and i have the original motor and its a 30 over motor that is currently undergoing a re ring of the dished race pistons(already in the motor when i got the car) and a re bearing of the block...the heads are # 5 castings and will undergo some heavy work to match the 4500 flanged offenhauser port-o-sonic intake i just picked up and i will be running lunati cam and lifters and harland sharp rockers. im hoping this combo will yeild me the numbers im looking for. just build the 350 and then when you find a 455 then swap it out. best of luck and happy mustang hunting

what are the casting #'s of the block/heads? That'll reveal whether it's an early or late block. The earlier blocks are rumored to be stronger. Also, the earlier heads are supposed to flow better - i.e. #5, #6, #7, or #7A heads. Basically, the heads of a '69-'72 Olds 350. Punch it 30 over, add hyperutectic pistons, do a mild street port job on a set of #5 heads (add bigger 2.00/1.62 valves), bump your compression to about 9.1, add roller tip rockers, and install a nice torque cam & light the tires and have fun!

A 350 can be bulit as much as a 455.

If it's an early block, all the better.

Tell us, casting numbers and head numbers.

The 350 Olds is one of the most underrated engines GM ever built. It has a better bore/stroke ratio than the 350 Chevy. The limiting factor is the factory heads.
