Check the casting number at the top front of the block, just below the thermostat housing. 260- 557751; 350- 395558.

 

Drive it & hit the gas, If it goes no place, its a 260

The 1975 260 would probably have #10 heads rather than the #8 heads for the 1975 350CI

 

As said above. The 75 350 is a very reliable motor with a lot of performance potential. The 75 260 is also very reliable and has the potential to really hold your boat in place on the water.

 

Pop the air cleaner and look for the Quadrajet that isn't a Quadrajet. The Dualjet that year is a Quadrajet body with the "secondary" top plate just a solid piece of metal with Dualjet on it.

Even if it is a 350 I'm not expecting much from a mid 70's smog motor..
as far as plant you in the seat power..
I'm betting on lame rear gears also.. but it is a solid start so there is that..

 

Well.....it might not be a powerhouse by todays standards, but I put a 75 350 into an 80 and had a ton of fun with that car. I blew the rear end (2.28 open each time) 3 times with no mods to the engine. Now that takes talent.
I finally got a 7.625 3.23 posi in the car and that stopped happening....lol.

 

You would be surprised with what a set of duals, timing, carb adjustments,shift kit along with a 3:23-3:42 rear gear will do for a smog 350.
I'm sure you will be happy with it , they are a nice comfortable, fun car to drive either way IMO.
Lots of guys here can give you pointers on how to get the most of what you have to enjoy your ride.

Oh, I'm sure That a few changes could bring some power to it..


I had a 75 in the late 80's it was a rusty pos, but it rode nice..
First I'll go though the basic's.. Then worry about upgrades.
I do want to find a radio/heater ac trim plate that has already been cut for a din radio.. as this one still has the factory radio. and I don't want to cut up the trim parts of the dash for a radio, when I'm sure there are already cut ones out there that people took out to bring it back to oem..

 

Yeah the easiest way is the heads. But I like the power test idea
