Timing gear removal

Hey guys, is there a trick to removing the timing gear from the crank or should I just pry it off? Thanks for the advice.

Also, be sure to thread the balancer bolt back into the snout before using a puller, to avoid possibly messing up the threads.

If it's tight, and I have seen them anywhere from finger removal to "break the puller" tight...

use a chisel to crack it at the keyway thin spot, and it will come right off, other than the drag of the tightly fitted key in crank's keyway...

Occasionally, if it's really stubborn, it may be helpful to split it at the keyway with a cold chisel.

edit: Jinx! Great minds think alike.

I didnt have a puller at the time so I use 2 pry bars with the angle tip and pry it at the side of the gear against the block and it came right off.
