Question

Hey everyone, I just registered.

My name is Alex S, I'm a 17 year old high school student in Toronto, ON. I bought a 1964 Jetstar 88 with a 2bbl 330 about a year ago, and the restoration (which I did mostly by myself) is almost complete.

I may soon be buying a tach, and I was wondering what the redline on my 330 V8 is. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks,
Al

Hello,

I know a 425 blig block (stock) tachs at 6,500rpm. A 330, similiar to a 330 should tach out at a higher RMP, I would speculate around 7,500rpm stock. I'll check my chassic manual for the specs later.

It's cool that you chose a 64. I like the body design of that year. if you restore it to stock specs, it'll be worth more. Same about my 66 Delta 88.

Hello again.

I've asked some of my motorhead friends. They said that a stock chevy 350 tachs out at 6,000rpm. He mentioned that if it has an upgraded cam, it would be even higher.

I would say a new 330 would tach out around 6,000rpm or so. That's not a for sure answer though.

Thank you Ed. I expected the redline would be somewhere around 6,000 rpm.

Here is a pic of my car taken last winter.

Now it is in black (awaiting new red paint,) all the body work is done, and most mechanical work is done as well.

My chilton manual shows peak horse on a 64 330 is 225@4600 for a 2bbl....so I would guess redline would be around 5300

my 67 330 has never seen over 5000 since the overhaul and according to chilton it's 320@5200...for whatever chilton is worth
