rear plug behind cam installation.

I have never installed the rear plug that goes behind the cam bearing the machine shop usually does this when they replace the cam bearings but i did not have the plugs at the time . Whats the procedure ? How far do you install it., i cant imagine installing it untill you hit the cam bearing .

I install it far enough that all of the shallow cup is on the straight section, leaving space to the bearing. Then I put RTV around it on the outside for extra insurance.

I would take the shortblock back to the machineshop and have them install it.

By shallo cup lined up to the straight section you mean edge of the block ? This is what I was thinkin too. Since the oil pan is not o n yet I might be able to see the space I have between it all. Next weekend I will back the cars out of the garage and start finishing it all up from where I'm at.

It is a pipe thread, so it tightens as it goes in. I just snug it good and use some sealer on it. There might be a torque spec, for it ?

There is no pressure on this, it just gives access to the cam tunnel. Install it just like you would a freeze plug, thin coat of sealed and press it in flush with the block.

I meant to drive it in far enough that the lip of the plug is just past the chamfer at the start of the hole.
