Quick Fuel carb questions

So appears my 455 transplant aspirations will be on hold a bit due to $$ being diverted towards my daughter's freshman college tuition. In the interim, I'm now thinking about swapping the upgraded Qjet 800 (Everyday Performance Level 1 performance build) currently on my mild-build '72 350 to a Quick Fuel (maybe the Slayer 600 or possibly their 750 with an eye towards possibly doing the 455 later).

The Everyday Performance Qjet right out of the box offered a very noticeable performance boost over the essentially stock Qjet 800 it replaced - I had been using a nicely rebuilt '76 Olds 350 Qjet and EP built me a performance version of that same carb about 2yrs ago. I've since had problems carbon-fouling plugs with that carb likely due to the relatively limited driving opportunities my ragtop sees (working from home, I barely see daylight during the week unless the dogs are being let out)...

Doubtful it's any fault of the carb itself, the car sees mostly local runs, cruise nights, etc. that don't really take advantage of the total benefits this carb offers. And Ken did tell me it would run richer than stock to enhance its performance, so no complaints with his stellar work.

Hopefully Mark (EFI) will offer his thoughts on this since I recall he is QF vendor and is located fairly close by to me.

Questions:

What parts would I need to install the QF to my factory throttle cable setup (or if it won't work with that, what parts would I need to replace that)?

Would the 750 offer similar performance (or better) to my current Qjet with engine mods which were done (essentially a Howards street performance cam, flat top pistons, 9.5 CR, E-brock 2711 intake and HEI) - keeping in mind I'm still looking down the road towards a potential 455 build that I could swap it onto.. Could I expect it to be easier on my plugs?

I have A/C and the Qjet has the left-side bolt hole provisions for my factory idle solenoid, the QF does not - for anyone running a QF that has encountered this situation - is there a solution for that (other than going without the solenoid)?

thanks

scott

I installed the quick fuel 600 cfm on my 350 in my camaro a few years ago and have nothing but good things to say about the carb. It was easy to adjust and once set doesn’t require constant adjustments. I also have a performance cam and 9.5:1 compression. I feel however that I should have gone with the 750 cfm for with the carb leaned right out I’m a bit rich. I purchased the QF 750 cfm carb for my 455 in my delta 88 and am about to fire it up in about 2 weeks. I feel it may also be abit small for the 455. I’m going to wait till I fire it up to determine whether I upgrade to the 850 on the 455 and upgrade my 350 to the 750. The 600 cfm is more for a stock 350 application. This is just my opinion but go with the 750 cfm.

Go with a 750 Slayer. Why not do a stroker version of your 350?

Scott,

I work for Advance Auto Parts as a Commercial Parts-Pro and I sell a lot of the Quick Fuel Carbs. I actually just sold one last week. I have never heard any complaints on them nor have I ever had any come back.

Thanks,
