Carb for 455

Hi guys,

I am driving it now or attempting to. I will go ahead and let you know that this is my first Carburated engine, I have always run Fuel Injection. With that being said I am a little out of my relm. Any way this might open up a can of worms but I have a 455 big block, bored .30, Edelbrock heads with minor port work, performer intake with minor port work, 242/572 custom grind cam, headers, magnaflow exhaust, 10:1 compression.
I am looking to purchase a new carb, the car currently has been driven 31 miles with a 750 quadrajet and its really losing power above 2800 RPM. Timing is correct, plenty of fuel pressure. line size is fine, plenty of vacuum, etc etc.
I am debating a Ultra Street Avenger 770 V.S. carb or a Quick Fuel SS 780 V.S. I am also running an Art Carr 200R4 with a 3:23 posi rear. The car weighs 3500 lb with driver and fluids. What would you suggest?

Thanks

Do a 870 street avenger or a quick fuel 830 double pump, per my dyno test on a mild 455.
The QF has adjustable linkage for the secondaries, they work great.

I found the standard street avenger 870, but I cannot figure out which QF 830 you are talking about, I seen a HR series but they dont offer it in a V.S. version?

Your combo should run good with a 750 Q-Jet, before you throw parts at it, consider sending your carb out to tune it for your motor.
I like Dean Oliver, he's done a few Q-Jets for me..

They don't make the 830 in the hot rod series, you have to go the next series up.
I like the QF stuff over most everything else because they're normally real good right out of the box. But if you need to adjust them their tech help is great and they have changeable everything without dismantling the whole carb.

Mark,
Have you had any experience with Patrick James (prosystems) ?
I am really leaning towards having him build an 830.

I hear Dean is great. I am leaning towards a different rout than a quad though but its still a good thought!

Pat is well known around here. But in all honesty, I think the upper end Quick Flow street 830 would be real good right out of the box.

I have a Street Avenger 770 on my 355, had a 670 on my milder 355. For some reason, in my experience, they "act" small.

Also, whichever carb you choose, make sure you get a quality throttle cable and electric fuel pump!!!

Sorry, couldn't resist................

hahahahahahahaha, I have a supposed QUALITY cable, and it is giving me more trouble than anything. Prosystems carb on the way! and an electric pump is on the way, I am looking forward to the .6 gain in 1/4 times LOL I been thinking about running an elec pump on my lawn mower so I can get the mowing knocked out quicker!
