Please excuse my question but...

Hi. New to the GM & Olds World. I just brought home a 1969 Cutlass of some form. The former owner lost his 455 to a machine shop due to finances etc... The car has a engine in it. The owner was honest and says he knows nothing about it but what he was told: Bored-out and has a roller cam unknown size engine. being a Ford guy I always thought that GM Division engines were all the same...yikes... now that I'm semi-educated about that...this engine has been painted gold, has a new 4bl carb and no manifold or headers. The former owner stated they could not fit the headers into the car. Having read the other posts it sounds like they ran into the starter / oil-filter problem etc... The upside-up fuel pump, oil fill stack etc...lead me to believe this is a Olds engine. My question: If it is some sort of later 307, or a older 350...will the headers for a olds small block fit regardless if it is some later small block or a 350.
The starter is also missing...which leads me to think that someone was trying to install headers, removed it, and it never made its way back onto the car. Thanks for reading...I am sold...I love the looks of the car and intend to keep her.

First, welcome to our site!

Second, our fuel pumps aren't upside down, Ford ones are.

Third, you should have no problem fitting headers to the car.

Fourth, rely heavily on our members here for guidance and sources for parts as well, we will be more than happy to help you out.

Fifth, nice car!

Welcome. There is a casting number on the block on the "shelf" directly above the water pump (where the oil fill tube is located). Post that number here and we'll be able to tell you what engine it is.
