piston ring confusion.

ok so i got some of my parts for my new rebuild i opened up the box of piston rings and set it down. Well my dog tucker walks in and bumps it with his nose while sniffing at all the boxes i had on my bench and knocked the box over spilling the rings out. Well i picked them up cleaned them off and organized them. The oil rings are easy. Now i got one set of rings that has a dot on the top and an inside bevel facing down. The other set had no dot no bevel. I remember i bought a set of speed pro's for my previous build and both the top rings and second rings had the dots. The only diffrence is those rings the standard 4.057 these are 4.087 anyone ever encounter this. Should the dotted one be the top ring ? Where would that leave my second ring since there is no visible bevel or dot !!!!! any help is appreciated.

Look at the ring from the side and the solid color ring should be the second ring. The ring with two lines on the side facing the cylinder wall is the first ring. This applies if they are molly rings.

That's what I figured too. The top ring is dark in color all around and has the dot and a bevel . The second rings are square and no dot and the oil rings are pretty self explanitory. Does that sound right. I usually go by how the are boxed but again my dog screwed that up lol.

The above sounds right, but you can go to the website of the ring mfg. and email or call them if the info isn't on the site. If only the top ring is moly, you will see the shiny moly sprayed into a groove on the face of the ring, and the dot means up. The second ring is usually cast iron and may or may not be directional.
