Setting piston ring side clearance

Getting started on the assembly of my new 455. Got my piston ring endgaps set, and went to check the ring to ring land setting. The Mondello Tech Reference manual and the factory specs call for .002"-.004" clearance there. I also have Bill Trovato's book, but this particular spec isn't listed anywhere. Anyway, my SpeedPro rings just fit in the grooves of the L2323 pistons with very little clearance. In fact, I can't get a .0015" feeler gauge between them (the smallest I have). Do I need to surface all of them until I get the recommended .002"-.003" clearance?
