Passenger side alt. bracket question

So on the passenger side alternator bracket what sets the tension on the lower ear of the alternator(the clearance hole ear)? Would it be a sleeve kinda like the later model gm stuff with the serpentine belt?

I'm sorry, but I have no idea what you're talking about. The bottom ear of the alternator fits right into the bracket and a bolt goes all the way through. The bolt in the upper ear rides in the slot in the "Y" shaped bracket so you can adjust belt tension. There aren't any sleeves or anything. There's really nothing complex about it.

I'm asking because you drop the alternator in and when you tighten that lower bolt the alternator is still loose. So I guess what I was asking is the only thing that holds the alternator tight the 5/16 bolt on the top ear? So yes it's just the top bolt in the slotted bracket thank you.

The lower bolt is a pivot. The upper is the bolt that keeps tension on the belt.

I had the opposite issue, the Summit Chrome 10 DN alternator was too big for the bracket. You could add washers or make up a spacer but as Joe said, not necessary.

Just so we're clear, the stock alternator fits pretty tightly in the bottom bracket. If there's a lot of clearance, there's something wrong.
