Olds 88 1960 misfiring problems

Hello, I’ve got a olds 88 with some major misfiring issues. Starts sometimes, but it runs really rough. If I give it a bit of gas it wont rev but missfires instead.

Ive replaced the carburator to a new one
I checked the timing chain so it lines up with the cam wheel (the two dots facing eachother) but cylinder one isnt in TDC when they match up
I’ve adjusted the point breaker to .5mm
Ive checked that every cylinder gets spark
Ive checked the compression on each cylinder
Ive set the timing so it at least should start

Idk really whats more to check or replace?
Hope some of u guys could help me out
Thanks

When the 2 dots are adjacent (crank at 12 and cam gear at 6) to each other #6 cylinder is firing. Oldsmobile distributor turns CCW.

Is the firing order the same on all olds engines?

I believe yours is 1-8-7-3-6-5-4-2 for 49-64 where as the later models are 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

I got it running! I turned the point breakers 45 degrees ccw and it runs pretty smooth, just needs a little fine tuning

The specs for the Olds 394 engine say: "Turn adjusting screw in until engine
begins to misfire, then back screw 1/2
turn

You say you set the points at 5 mm. I am not a thoroughly conversant on the conversion, but I believe that comes out to nearly .020. You might get better results by narrowing the gap to .016 or 4 mm? Timing should be set at 5 degrees before TDC.

Adjusting the point gap changed the ignition timing. Set the point gap first and then the ignition timing. Also, triple check the firing order, it should be cast into the intake manifold.

Good luck!!!

I've learned to look at a new poster's profile to see where they are and looks like he's in eastern Europe, which might explain his metric specs. 60, if you can find a dwell meter/tachometer it will make tuning your vehicle easier, especially since your car has externally adjustable points. Those have gotten hard to find in US so don't know about finding one on the Continent.
