Need an ID on this part, please.

So I got this engine pretty much put together, and I find this on my tool box...oops. Pretty sure it goes around the crank somewhere, but totally forget where exactly.

It goes on the crankshaft, right in front of the timing gear..... it's called an oil slinger and also helps to deflect oil from front seal.....

It's sandwiched between the harmonic balancer and timing gear?

Well..yes, but behind the Timing cover. So technically between the Crank Sprocket and the Oil Seal in the Timing Cover. But I have run engines without that piece with no problems from Oil leaks or " Dry " timing chains.

That's not a messy floor, good sir. I'll show you a messy floor when I get back to my workshop.

Yes.

And there is no "camshaft slinger" because the cam doesn't penetrate the front cover. There IS a fuel pump eccentric on the cam, however.

And technically, the slinger IS sandwiched between the crank gear and the balancer - the hub of the balancer passes through the front cover seal and clamps clamps both the slinger and the crank gear against the front bearing boss on the crank.
