Question Missing ERG Valve? 71 Olds 350

Hey all, new here! Own a 71 Cutlass Supreme, owned it for slightly over a year, has the original 350 in it, still runs, it's my daily driver. Recently I was driving down the highway when I heard a loud bang underneath my car, followed by the engine getting real rough and the smell of exhaust. At first I thought maybe something had happened to an exhaust manifold, but what actually happened was the ERG valve had fallen off of the engine. Whatever intake manifold the previous owner put on the engine, I cannot for the life of me find an ERG valve to replace the missing one, nor a block off plate.

Thoughts? Should I just buy a new intake manifold without the ERG port on it? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I'd post pictures but there's over a foot of snow outside and getting under the hood would be difficult.

You probably know that your '71 did not come with EGR from the factory.

I just searched, and darned if I can't find one either, which I think is very strange, since I've seen plenty of them.

Is the EGR itself broken or missing? You could always just re-install it until you find or make a plate, or get a non-EGR manifold.

Welcome to ClassicOlds.

Welcome to the site, as Eric said, your car did not have an EGR when it was born.

Yeah, I had already known that in 71 the engine didn't come with an EGR valve. From the records I got with the car I think it started being worked on early 80's, which is probably when it got the new manifold and EGR valve. Unfortunately, the whole thing is missing, so I'm going to agree with Gearman and just go for a new manifold. Cheers, and thanks for the help and the welcome greetings!

You can buy or make a simple block off plate.

if you are trying to look it up you can't look under 1971. As noted, it didn't come with an EGR. I searched '74 Cutlass & found the following, which looks the same as the one on my 79 TA 403. It won't be hard to find one that bolts on but prob better to make a block off plate.

I would just make a block off plate and go on down the road. Has the entire engine been changed or just the intake manifold? If it is the original engine it should have #7 heads on it.
