Interference

Can't seem to get these bolts in for the life of me! Edelbrock 7111. Seems that the bolt head is interfering with the plenums and it can't even be positioned into place to be tightened. Anyone else had this problem? Techniques?

(Standby, trouble with pictures)

The back one should go. The intake comes with a special 12 point, small head bolt for the front one you are having issue with. You can get two of them to fix them both.

Looks like you will have to use those allen head bolts, (Forget their proper name) Apparently the edelbrock manifold is too tight to use the stock bolts....

Oh, okay. I bought it used on eBay a couple months back. Thanks for the heads up!

They are called Socket Head Cap Screws

The 12pt Flange bolt per the suggestion above

I used the 12 point flange bolts shown above. And Grade 8 thick washers. Don’t use regular Grade 5 as they will deform.

Thank you all for your replies, I will have to find these online or call Edelbrock.

It might be the angle of the pic but it looks like the rear bolt is crooked. Make sure it isn't cross threaded before tightening it.

Bolts

Edelbrock sells a bolt kit for intake manifolds that includes the specialty bolts discussed above. While a bit overpriced, they are nice and shiny, and more importantly, they fit. May be worth looking into.

Or do like I did and go to your local hardware store and buy two bolts for those positions.

I had to turn down the head of a socket head cap screw to fit.

Another thing to remember is most factory torque values are with the bolts oiled. I believe the intake manifold also has a torque sequence just like the heads. It may make a difference in getting a good seal. Good luck.

You might try a local bolt and fastener store in your local area to find some.

Will this affect the integrity of the screw? Got the socket head screws but having the same problem with the head getting pushed by the runner.

Not enough to count for a 25 ft/lb fastener.
