Flathead head bolt Q?

Hi,
I'm replacing the head gasket on a '37 L-37 257 ci flathead Eight. Some of the bolts are a little weak from rust near the threads, so I'm going to replace them all. Does this require special bolts?, or can I use standard grade 8 bolts? They are 7/16" by about 3 inches long.

Thanks, Jerry

I don't think they are anything different(special) than # 8 bolts. I've used #8's many times before with no problems but on 324 v8s I would think they would be the same ...Tedd

I would check the diameter of the bolt shoulder to make sure it is the same diameter as the stock head bolt

Yep, I did that. They are actually a better fit, since the old bolts are so weak & worn.
After I reamed the rust & crap out of the passages, the new bolts are a much better fit, tighter, but not too tight to bind.
