I brought a 455 out of a delta 88 and it has 1 c head and 1 e head. Can I use this combination. The guy who I brought this from did drive it as a daily driver but is this a good performance combination.

 

Yeah, enjoy.. C head is 1969, and the E head is 1970. Not much difference in performance.

 

I don't think a mismatch is going to be a great way to achieve stellar performance. But I believe if you stick with the cam you were talking about running in the other thread you won't notice a difference.

The differences in the two castings are negligible. The big difference is valve size - are both big or small valve?

 

Joe, way back when I bought my 1970 442 as a basket case it had one C and one E head. Its been a lot of years now, but I thought the spring height was different between the two heads. Could that be true... or just cobwebs in my memory? John

 

John, you are correct.
The C heads do not have rotating keepers (68-69)
The E heads have rotating keepers on both intake and exhaust valves. But their spring pockets are the same depth I believe (70')
The G heads have one spring pocket taller than the other if I remember correctly, and only the exhaust valve rotates. (71')
The (72') Ga heads have the rotators on both intake and exhaust again and the pockets are equal again I think. Be careful here because they may have the same casting number, but not be the same.

Someone please correct me if I am mistaken on any of this.....kinda skimming off the top of my brain right now.

Also,take a hard look at these #7 heads from 1971. It's easy to see the staggered valve spring pockets by looking at the valve guide bosses.

 

thanks for the info...I am not sure of the valve sizes as I do not have the heads off yet.
