Intake manifold

On average, what can I expect to pay for a used (original) 4 BBL intake manifold for my SBO? I have a 2BBL set up now and am looking to upgrade to 4 BBL down the road, so I am gathering parts as I can.

for the original one you are looking at between $450 and $1000. it will depend on how nice it is. i have seen some for $500 over the past year but were not in top shape.

Wow, I did not know they were that pricey. I thought since most people were going with the Edlebrock intakes due to lighter weight and better flow characteristics that the old cast iron intakes were not that desirable.

A standard iron factory manifold can be found for about $40. I am assume you are not looking for something rare or exotic.

Correct, just a standard cast iron 4 barrel intake to throw on the 350. $40 seems reasonable.

I agree, $40 is a great deal. You might have to spend $40 for a rebuildable Q-jet as well.

I wouldn't suggest that. Even if the carburetor is totally corroded and siezed up you should be able to get at least $10 for it (if not $40 or more) as a rebuildable core.

All my Oldsmobiles have two barrel carbs. However, since we know Rochesters aren't so reliable I have several on each engine just to help ensure one will work at any given time.

The Manifold I want to replace not the carburetor, but I can only use a Q jet on the iron intake. I have had excellent service from my Q jets and my present Edel carburetor.

Is there a certain model Q Jet 4 barrel that I should be looking for? Or is there just one 4 barrel version for the Olds with the iron intake?

if your not worried about numbers, the newer the better, i spent some time working in a carburetor shop, and the tune ability of the newer q-jets is amazing compared to the old ones. if your really lucky you can find an 800 off of a chevy 454 around 1980. thats the most sought after q-jet i have seen aside from H.O. pontiac 455 q-jets. which is a carb in itself. either way do yourself a huge favor and find one with an electric choke. howd that intake work out for you?

Hey, sorry I had not responded sooner. I'd received the intake a few days ago, but I was not home to check it out. It arrived in good condition, although I will be spending a good chunk of time trying to get those packing peanuts out of every nook and cranny they wedged themselves in.

A member on this site has got a q-jet off of a '77 350 he is thinking about selling. I am waiting to see what kind of choke setup that carb has.

Here is a newb question: Do all carbs have the same basic mounting plate? Meaning: can I take a 4 barrel q-jet off the 454 intake you mentioned and put it on an SBO 4 barrel intake?

And you are right that intake is one heavy SOB.

When I wanted to upgrade the intake on my 455 donor motor to a 4bbl, I went with an original cast iron set up. I heard the aluminum ones were prone to cracking near the exhaust crossovers. I was lucky enough to find one locally and save the shipping.
