I've got an aluminum olds 350 intake I am thinking of using on my 403.I was wondering what your opinions on this are? It has the casting of CFD 3

near the thermostat housing is the letter/number A4

anybody know what this came off of?

 

It will save some weight but there is NO performance gain.. SOme say they actually flow less than the their cast Iron brothers

Yeah, a 307. Fortunately, it came off a flat tappet 307 with the 5A heads, so it doesn't totally suck - unlike the A5 intake, which, since it is also aluminum, doesn't even make a good doorstop.

 

I am hoping I can go after it with some carbide burrs and put a spacer on top and make it a little better. If nothing else i will lose about 35 lbs on the front of the car.

 

this intake has a couple of things sticking up inside the primary throttle bores---should I remove these for a performance use? and what are they?

Those are the EGR ports. If you are not running an EGR valve, you can remove them and insert pipe plugs.

 

Not sure of your budget but Performers for a SBO are plentiful used in decent shape for $100. I am one of the minority that believes they are an upgrade over stock cast, plus they look better along with the weight savings. Just a thought.

 

I would love to put a performer on it but the class rules dictate stock motors. NO ALUMINUM INTAKES Im hoping I can get away with a stocker.
