Help with 7a Heads Inspection & Valve Spring Options

Hey everyone, it's been a bit!

Let me start off by saying that I'm an Olds newbie. I have a few engine builds under my belt, but they're all Chevy blocks. So if you have a moment, I'd appreciate it if you could look over these 7a heads with me and inspect/confirm what I have in front of me.

Background:

These came off a 403 I bought with a wiped cam lobe. The Trans Am it was in was sitting for 20+ years in storage in California. It came with a book of receipts and papers. Apparently, the engine was built and machined by Dave Smith's Precisioned Speed in 1982. As far as I can tell, the engine has been untouched since then. Looks like it was setup with a PS C-113 cam, which I can't find any info for.

What I've noticed so far about the heads:

- Looks like they were cast for rotators on the exhaust valves (deeper spring pocket)
- Dave Smith's guide plates and adjustable rocker arm kit
- Dual springs
- Different shims found under intake/exhaust springs (to make up for no rotators & set install height?)
- Receipts for Retainers show Kenne Bell "No Wiggle" retainers
- Positive style valve seals (did they have these back then or did someone else do this?)
- Bronze valve guides
- Porting done
- Chamber work? Receipts show "60cc"
- Valve seats look really thin
- Valves roughly measure to 1.622 (Intake), and 1.99 (Exhaust)

Questions:
1. Are any of my observations incorrect?
2. What else do you see that I missed?
3. Can anyone recommend new valve springs? I'm looking to have a flat tappet hydraulic cam ground for this engine, and the cam grinder asked for the spring specs. I'm a little confused if I should be measuring the CURRENT setup's spring height and matching that with new springs, or if he will only need the recommended installed height for whatever spring I go with.

Here's what I have:

The heads are 1972 and appear to be in good shape from what you have shown. Since you have them apart, I'd suggest you have the seats and valves lapped to see if they may need touched up. If you are leaning toward a performance build I would then also recommend that you fill the two center exhaust ports where they go toward the intake manifold and also weld or braze the vane between those two exhaust ports at the exhaust manifold side to maintain full separation all the way to the header flange. PC valve seals have been in use since the early 1960s. Newer viton material valve seals are now available and are longer lasting. I would recommend having those valve springs checked as there is probably nothing wrong with them. 1.670" is the nominal installed height and they can be checked, with your retainer, for pressure at the installed height and also to see how much valve lift they can safely tolerate and the pressure at .500 lift and also at .600 lift. That should give your cam grinder the info he wants. The 2 inch intake and 1.630 exhaust valve were used by Oldsmobile in the W31 performance package. You could increase those valve sizes but at greater cost; probably not worth the effort and cost. What rocker arms are being used? You did not include a picture of them. Good luck with your build.
