HEI ignition module

HEI ignition module
350 Olds engine with a HEI dizzy:
I have an aftermarket HEI distributor, I decided to change out the module to an Accel unit.
When I started the car up I had to up the idle speed by 500 RPMs or the car wouldn't run, it ran rough at start up and at idle.
It started running real good for 2 blocks then dead at 30MPH, coasted to a side street and decide to take a shot and change back to the original module, the car started and I had to idle it back down 500 rpms and its runs great again.
Did I get a junk Accel module or was it not compatible with this dist???

The Accel stuff is usually good, is it their super high performance module? I have only ran one of their 7 pin modules and two HEI Super coils, one for many years. Why 500 rpm idle, seems pretty low and strange it has to be there. Do the pick up connections look good? Are the weights moving freely with no binding? Does the module pin count match the original?

I do failure analysis for a living and we put the suspect part back in to see if the failure returns. Without doing this you don't really know if the removed part was bad or if something else occurred while you were swapping parts (such as a broken wire losing contact, grounding, etc).
