Which Factory Intake to Use?

Hello,

I have a 1970 350 engine that had a 2bbl factory intake on it (I have). I am going to get a complete mild rebuild and was wondering if it would be beneficial to install the 330 4bbl non egr intake (I have). The engine is in a 1979 Cutlass Brougham which currently has a 4bbl factory erg intake on it from the 80's. Thanks for the advice in advance.

Steve

You'll definitely be happier with the 4bbl carb.

Do you know the year and CID of that engine "from the 80's"? Some of the 80s intake manifolds are good, and some are not.

I don't know what the 80's manifold is. I will check and advise.

The 66-67 330 4bbl or the 80's 4bbl?

That may depend upon which 80s intake manifold you have. But in reality, any 4bbl should be better than the 2bbl.

Is the 330 a spreadbore intake? That looks the the usual #17 iron early 307 intake, as good as any iron intake.

Here is a pic of the 330. #390327. Better performance than the "early 307"?,???

The difference will be minimal plus you have to convert to electric choke, your call.

I'm going to stick with the one that is on it. Upon further inspection, it is a #16 off a 403 77-79! I put that intake on back when I was 19 years old. (51 now).

It's actually a #16 from a 403 77-79. I'll stick with that one!

Agreed, the #16 should be fine.

I did something similar on my 67 330 engine. I took off the TwoJet carb and manifold and installed an EGR equipped Q-Jet manifold. I used the EGR manifold because it was free from the wrecking yard! I installed the EGR Valve cover plate like yours but I also tapped and installed pipe plugs in the holes under the carb inside the plenum. I dunno if it made a difference or not, but it did give me a sense of accomplishment. I also ran it through an Evap-O-Rust bath after the pics were taken.

Sounds like a good idea! I can't see where it would hurt. Thanks for the input.
