i curently have the stock cast intake on my 307 but i am thinking about going to a alinimum intake to shed some weight. is it worth it?

 

Not with a 307....IMO

 

Don't change the intake just to save weight. You should only be concerned about that if you are racing your Olds.

 

Don't waste your $$$ unless you are going for more compression and a bigger cam... IMHO of course.

 

thats what i figured. just had to ask. im gonna go with a RV cam in the verry near future.

What kind of 307 has an iron intake?
When you remove intake to change cam, might as well opt for the appropriate A4 or A5 intake at that time, or your favorite aftermarket unit.

 

I don't know the exact detailes, but some ( most? ) B and E bodys had iron intakes. Every G body that I've ever seen had the aluminum one though. I guess they figured the weight savings wasn't worth it in the bigger cars since they were already tanks!

 

The VIN Y motor in my 84 Custom Cruiser has a #14 iron intake.

 

just went out and wrote down the motor block number and the vin number off my 83 cutlass supreme 2dr. the intake is iron. i checked it with a magnet.the block number is 3161 GM 5.0L and the vin number is 1GAM47Y90M427502

 

I have an o.e. aluminum intake on the 307 that is currently in my 72 . That will be for sale as soon as it's back in the garage for the new 355. if anyone is intrested pm me.

 

what would you want for the intake coppercutlass?

 

50 bucks . It has the typical corrosion around the water ports but i reoplaced the gasket and i had no issues i can build up the coreners where it is corroded and re shape if for no cost but you migth have to wait a few months before it is available. maybe sooner but right now i got my 77 cutlass and my fiances k5 blazer both in the garage . if i get the rear end done maybe mid febuary.

 

ok. im hopin to come across a olds 350 soon and rebuild it but if you manage to get it out sooner, let me know.

and would be expensave as hell to ship to i bet.lol. id be happy to find a olds 350 or a 403 block with a crank.

 

I owned 3 early 307's, all were iron intakes. I bought a used A4 from the USA, not looking for a needle in a haystack. We never had 307's in the 80's Cutlass up here, except the Hust/Olds, 442 and 88 model year. Only aluminum intakes I have seen up here, were on a 84 Hurst/Olds and later swirl port motors. That included a 87 chebby caprice, factory Olds 307 powered.

 

Where do you live? keep checking on CL... lots of olds stuff appears on a regular basis.

I take it that is the ubiquitous #16 casting then, or perhaps #17- large ID typically in the depression aft of the front water crossover... Will have an EGR valve.

 

I have had many 307 motors and all have had iron intakes. The only aluminum ones were a5.
I have seen an aluminum a4 before, but in my opinion they are far less common.

I forget the casting number for the irons, because I usually just scrap them.... but I believe it's the same intake as the 403 motors.
Just like a #16. I just recently gave one to Milan so he could flow it. Try PMing him for the details.

 

Pretty sure they were the #17 intakes. They were sure heavy and on most 307's up here.
