Engine hard starting when warm.

Hi, guys. Had problem getting back on. Any way. Thanks for info on fuel filter bubbling from pump. Temp with infrared gun at thermostat housing after driving for 45 mins was 198°f. Next challenge car has relatively new elderbrock 4 bbl. Electric choke. Plus pre heat tube from exhaust to air cleaner. Question. Car fires right up in morning. After driving everything all heated up. It idles rough at stop. Plus if you shut car off to go into store or whatever very hard to start need to hold accelerator to floor until it pops then have to rev it to keep it going. Then when you start driving everything is fine.
oh, sorry 72 cutlass supreme convertible 350 v8 original motor newly rebuilt.

A couple of thoughts. First, once the car has warmed up sufficiently, pull the air filter lid and make sure the choke is open while it is idling. If it is open, I would make sure the carb is adjusted correctly (adjust the idle mixture jets using a vacuum gauge). If not, figure out why the choke is closed. If operation is correct, check the choke when you go to restart the engine after it has been sitting a bit. It sounds from your description of the symptoms, the choke is closed when you try to restart the engine and you need to go to wide open throttle to open the choke.

Did you properly adjust the choke after installing the new carb and intake? Is the electric choke working?

Engine hard start when warmed up. Cranks fine.

Yes electric choke closed when initial start up. Wide open after. I checked it yesterday after I got home. Didn't know there was so many little things that could cause this. I will go through items that others posted. Thank you for responding.

Hi guys. Update on my 1972 cutlass supreme convertible. Thanks to forum. Just finished replacing all hydraulic parts on convertible top. Pump, hoses, cyclinders.
besides fuel gauge trouble shooting which I can get to later. Working through hard start after engine warm. Going to switch to hei. Ignition. Don't have any more questions on fore mentioned items you guys helped me immensely on those. So now I noticed on my radiator someone capped off overflow port on radiator by cap. Plus no coolant reservoir. I Have bought new reservoir tank. Also have small leaks of coolant on both sides on bottom, plus at a/c heater valve on intake. I'm Assuming these issues are because the overflow port was capped? I'm Going to have radiator recored. Does this sound right to you guys? Or the capped port is not uncommon? Thanks

Install your radiator over flow tank and hopefully the leak will stop. Caps shouldn't be used to block ports on a radiator.

The original Qjet is a much better carb than an Elderbrock.
If the choke isn't partially closed when the engine is hot then it sounds like the bowl may be boiling dry.
