None of those pics show what I was asking about. The second pick on the first ones you showed has some gold thing pictured, what is that? Has the horn relay been hanging all this time?

To answer George's question, you need to photograph the coil terminal in the area indicated by the yellow spot. Follow the wires to where they disappear into the harness. If one wire has a coarse woven covering, it is the ballast resistor.
If neither does, follow them to see whether one goes somewhere else (like to a second resistor) before disappearing into the harness.

Doh it's a battery, can't see the woods for the trees. You shouldn't have a ballast resistor was my point so that's a good thing. The horn relay bolts to the drivers fender just above the wheel housing. It should be grounded.

Right, it should be a resistor wire not the ceramic block thing. The picture of the battery is what I thought was a ballast resistor. Has the dwell been checked on the points or did you eliminate them with a Pertronix kit or the like?

I've not seen the coil aimed towards the carb before - gas + spark = barbecue!
Believe it should run parallel to the valve covers.
Wires resting on coil inlet could be causing a short after they get warm or wet.
Love the way the plug wires are all tie-wrapped together - could be causing a miss on rainy days!
Those spark plug wires look like a cheap universal kit - not correct for Olds.
Straighten out the coil, get a good set of wires, and see if that doesn't correct most of the problem!

here is a few pics,i took the car out today and drove about a 20 mile round trip with a stop at homedepot and the grocery store.i didn't have any problems (no almost stopping)but i don't feel like its completely fixed.my buddy commented on the wire too an said almost the same thing.i had a new ignition starter switch put on the car yesterday.

Connections look alright to me.
I was mistaken about the polarity, but yours is hooked up right.
I can't see the colors or the textures of the two wires on the hot side, though, and that's what we all wanted to see
